Celebration of Ak Kalpak Day on Ala-Too Square
On March 5, 2023, Kyrgyzstan celebrated Ak Kalpak Day (Ak Kalpak Kün), a public holiday dedicated to the national headdress of the Kyrgyz people, the white kalpak. It was established by Resolution No. 825-VI of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic on June 29, 2016, with the aim of preserving cultural heritage, supporting national traditions, and fostering pride in history and identity.
Students of the Department of Metrology and Standardization, group UKb-1-21, together with their curator M.N. Nematjanova, took an active part in the festive events on the central square of Ala-Too in Bishkek. The students joined a mass procession, flash mobs, concerts, and events in honor of Ak Kalpak, where thousands of people wearing traditional white kalpaks gathered to listen to folk songs and learn more about the symbolism of this headdress.
