GOALS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
FOR THE DISCIPLINE “FOREIGN LANGUAGE”
(BY PROFICIENCY LEVELS)
1. General Provisions
1.1. This document defines the goals and intended learning outcomes for the discipline “Foreign Language” in accordance with proficiency levels A1–A2, B1, and B2.
1.2. The goals and learning outcomes are aimed at developing students’ communicative competence in academic and professional contexts.
1.3. The intended learning outcomes serve as the basis for curriculum design, assessment procedures, and the organization of ongoing and final evaluation.
2. Level A1–A2 (Basic)
2.1. Goals
2.1.1. Development of basic communication skills in everyday and academic situations.
2.1.2. Acquisition of elementary professional vocabulary relevant to the field of study.
2.1.3. Development of reading skills and comprehension of simple technical texts.
2.2. Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of Level A1–A2, the student is able to:
2.2.1. Understand and use everyday expressions and simple phrases in oral and written communication.
2.2.2. Introduce themselves, their major, university, and research interests.
2.2.3. Read and understand adapted texts related to their specialty.
2.2.4. Fill out forms and compose short messages and emails.
2.2.5. Participate in simple dialogues on academic and professional topics.
3. Level B1 (Intermediate)
3.1. Goals
3.1.1. Development of communicative competence in academic and professional contexts.
3.1.2. Formation of skills for working with authentic technical texts.
3.1.3. Preparation for participation in professional communication.
3.2. Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of Level B1, the student is able to:
3.2.1. Understand the main ideas of specialized texts.
3.2.2. Describe processes, technologies, and devices related to their field of study.
3.2.3. Conduct business correspondence, including inquiries, responses, and reports.
3.2.4. Prepare short presentations on technical topics.
3.2.5. Participate in discussions on professional issues.
4. Level B2 (Upper-Intermediate)
4.1. Goals
4.1.1. Development of professionally oriented foreign language competence.
4.1.2. Preparation for participation in international academic and professional environments.
4.1.3. Development of critical information analysis skills.
4.2. Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of Level B2, the student is able to:
4.2.1. Understand complex technical and scientific texts without adaptation.
4.2.2. Write abstracts, article summaries, and technical reports.
4.2.3. Prepare and deliver project presentations in a foreign language.
4.2.4. Participate in professional negotiations and discussions.
4.2.5. Use professional terminology accurately and appropriately.
