International recognition

ANABIN (Anerkennung und Bewertung ausländischer Bildungsnachweise) is the official state database of Germany containing information on the recognition of foreign diplomas, educational programs, and higher education institutions.

The database is maintained by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (KMK) and is used by:

  • German universities;
  • employers;
  • migration and visa authorities;
  • qualification recognition authorities.

What international recognition of a diploma through ANABIN means.
If a diploma is listed in the ANABIN database and the university has H+ status, this means that:

  • the diploma is officially recognized in Germany;
  • the graduate can:
    • apply for master’s degree programs at German universities;
    • use the diploma for employment;
    • apply for a Blue Card and other professional visas;
  • no additional studies or re-recognition (nostrification) are required in most cases.
