In 1962, he entered postgraduate studies at the Moscow Machine Tool Institute. There, upon recommendation, he was selected for the cosmonaut corps as a flight engineer. He successfully passed all technical tests, physical training, and medical examinations with an excellent evaluation, but was disqualified due to insufficient eyesight at that time.
In 1966, he was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences with a dissertation on the topic of Automation in Mechanical Engineering.
Since 1966 and up to the present, he has been working at the Frunze Polytechnic Institute (now Kyrgyz Technical University). In 1969, he founded the Department of Automation in Mechanical Engineering and headed it until 1999.
In 1989, he obtained the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences at the Leningrad Military Mechanical Institute. Since 1990, he has held the academic title of Professor.
